Hello fellow Killer Bunnies fans!
I’ve got a few fun projects on the Quest front from last month to tell you about, just like I promised.
But first….
The full game of Jupiter came to my house recently and I’m so stoked!
I couldn’t even wait 24 hours to play it.
We played with the Aliens option and although we had a pact among the bunny players to work together at first to kill them off, greed took over and we ended up killing each other instead to get to the carrots….
This was the result! The aliens took over making it impossible to get to space without getting destroyed. And only one person got carrots. Nonetheless, it was FUN!!! I cannot wait to play it again.
Now, let’s talk about my new models!
I’ve started working on not one but THREE different Quest pieces last month.
1. Killer Bunnies Logo
Most of my designing time went to this guy. I’m making the classic Sinister Bunny! I hope you all are as excited as I am. I’ve been wanting to make this bunny model for a while now. I’ve made tons of progress on it and am just working on the finishing touches now. If I sent you a picture of the rendering it wouldn't look how it's supposed to.... I’m a bit of a perfectionist so you can still expect a few weeks before I’m completely satisfied with it to the point I can show you.
2. Yellow Ball with a Red Stripe
I’ve also made lots of progress on the yellow ball with a red stripe. I expect I’ll have the perfected version in the next few days.
There's a bit of history behind this one. A long time ago I was lucky enough to get the deluxe version of this. It was a fairly big squishy ball about the size of a baseball. I really liked it but then lost it a few years ago….
So I decided to recreate it, except in plastic! As I was designing it, I remembered that there were some things about the original version that bothered me a bit. It would often roll across the table and frequently fall. Also, people really liked to take it and throw it at other players when upset. So for the 3D printed version I’ve decided to flatten the bottom side so it won’t roll so easily. I also remember being surprised how big it was when I first got it. Sure enough, we found during gameplay it was kinda hard for the player who had it to find a place to put it. So I’m also making it smaller so that it will be a bit more convenient. And hopefully the fact that my version is not squishy will prevent people from wanting to throw it at each other. Please don’t try this at home. It WILL hurt!
3. Pawns
The third project is the pawns! I love the illustrations of them from Jonathan. How cute are they?! I’ve decided to create a new version so I can add the mouths and eyeballs to replicate the illustrations on the cards. These models still need a lot of work so don’t expect them right away. But I’ll keep you updated on my progress.
SHIPS
On the Jupiter front, I’ve not forgotten about the ship tokens. After playing the full version of the game I’ve gotten extra motivation to work on them. It'll really bring the playing experience up another level. I’ll get moving on them this month but it will take some time to finish.... Although I’ve designed most of them, I need to refine the printing of each and I have a lot to figure out when it comes to the connection between the stands and the ships. I’ll also need to do a lot of play testing with them to make sure they work well on the board before I can start worrying about next steps.
Pushing the design of the ships off longer than my previous plan was also a little strategic. In designing the inserts for the Markers series, I focused on making them take up as little space as possible to guarantee they would fit inside the box. Mr. B (the publisher) was kind enough to send me dimensions of the box, and give me an estimate of how much space I'd have to use, which allowed me to get started on them even before the Kickstarter was shipped. But the ships and stands take up more space than the markers. A lot more space.... Now that I have a copy of the game, I'll (finally!) be able to design the inserts for the ships and test them out in real-time instead of just going off of educated guesses about how much space everything else like the cards would take up. I am happy to say that the markers' inserts do indeed fit very nicely inside the box, which I'm relieved about.
That’s it for this update! Thanks for following along.
PS: If your copy of Jupiter hasn’t arrived yet I hope it gets to you soon!
